A Family Reunion to Die From
Boston cop Magnus Jonson doesn't fit in at the Reykjavik Violent Crimes Unit where he has been assigned to brief the peace-loving Icelanders on American-style (i.e. very violent) crime.
The Icelanders won't let Magnus carry a gun, bully the suspects or follow his gut. And his superiors seem to expect that he will obey orders. . . . Magnus also has family trouble--lots of relatives in Iceland who give new meaning to the word "dysfunctional." Watch out, Magnus, those reunions can be murder.
American cop wreaks havoc in Reykjavik. Fascinating detail about Iceland
I expect great things from this series, but I don't think the author has hit his stride yet.
Series Guide
Start with Far North (#2).

A little too much Tolkein for me. But good action.

Plus: Tolkein's inspiration for Lord of the Rings

The world's most dysfunctional family. Well-plotted mystery but no surprises. Title character (Detective Magnus Jonson) off-stage for much of the story--I missed him.
(Police Procedurals. Set in Iceland.)
