On the Beat in Iceland
Welcome to post-financial crisis Iceland! The title character of this series of police procedurals, Chief Inspector Gunnhildur (Gunna) Gisladottir, and her team try not to let the police department's dwindling resources get in the way of catching the bad guys, many of whom are among the (formerly) rich and shameless who caused the financial disaster in the first place.
Down-to-earth, extroverted, female Nordic cop with a sense of humor
I love a strong female hero with a healthy sense of humor (and a healthy appetite)! Gunna is down-to-earth and extroverted. Usually, the heroes in Nordic Crime sacrifice family and health for work, but Iceland cop Gunna Gisladottir proves that you can do it all--catch the bad guys, take care of the children and run up the stairs two at a time--without succumbing to despair, depression or heart failure. She's a winner and so is this series.
